Welcome to this week’s Try Me Tuesday. As a reminder…each week I will grab a new set of products and test them out. I’ll put the Publix brand up against a national brand product and report back.

I know many times I struggle with what brand to choose. Often a sale or a coupon/sale combination make that an easier decision…but what about those times when you need an item and there is not a sale? Do you grab the house brand or pay more and get the national brand? More importantly, is there really a difference in taste?

This week we tried Publix Baked Whole Wheat Crackers and Triscuit Crackera)

Publix Baked Whole Wheat Crackers, 9 oz, $2.49

Ok, so let me start by saying that my boys have never had a Triscuit or the Publix version. They eat cheesy/buttery type crackers. But, I happen to love a Triscuit and picked up a box in a recent sale figuring that I could let them try them then put them out at my next get together.

For our taste tests, I always put the items out on a plate or paper towel that I have written on and have everyone try the food at the same time so that they aren’t biased by anyone else. So…we all take a bite of the first cracker and Jeb (my brutally honest, no filter kiddo) asks very seriously—“What is this? WOOD?”

The rest of us busted out laughing. Obviously these crackers are not for everyone…and Jeb is DEFINITELY not one of those people. Jake didn’t really care for them either. So, I guess I will put them out with some cheese at my next gathering and hope no one else thinks that I am serving up wood crackers–tee hee!

RESULTS

• Publix – 0
• Nabisco – 4

Ultimately, the boys did decide that they preferred the Nabisco version since I told them they had to make a choice. It seems the Triscuit is less wood-like than the Publix version. I also chose the Triscuit making it the winner from a taste standpoint. When it comes to price, the Publix is cheaper UNLESS you get the Triscuit on sale like I did. So, I am declaring the Triscuit the overall winner this week.
