Try Me Tuesday - Publix Tissue on I Heart Publix 4

Welcome to this week’s Try Me Tuesday. As a reminder…each week I will grab a new set of products and test them out. I’ll put the Publix brand up against a national brand product and report back.

I know many times I struggle with what brand to choose. Often a sale or a coupon/sale combination make that an easier decision…but what about those times when you need an item and there is not a sale? Do you grab the house brand or pay more and get the national brand? More importantly, is there really a difference?

This week we tried Publix Wet Mop Wipes.

Publix Wet Mop Wipes, 12 ct, $3.49

Swiffer Sweeper Wet Mopping Cloths, 12 ct, $4.62

Try Me Tuesday - Publix Tissue on I Heart Publix 3I thought it would be fun to try something besides food—so we tested Wet Mop Wipes. I don’t really use these so I wasn’t at all sure what to expect. I like the spray type but was able to get both of these on sale and thought that would make it the perfect time to check them out.

First, I can tell you that I still prefer the spray/cloth combo. I didn’t like having to handle the wet wipes and deal with getting them on the head of the mop-thingy. I am sure I will get better at it over time but it was more time consuming and I like being able to control the amount of cleaner that I use. They both went on the exact same way but it might be worth knowing that the Swiffer version had a little scrubby type strip at the top which might come in handy at times.

Obviously my test is no where near scientific…but I did try to be very fair and test them as close to the same as possible. I chose about a 6 foot section of my kitchen to do the test. and did half of the area with the Publix version and the other half with the Swiffer Sweeper Wet Cloths.

They both came out of the package sopping wet. I couldn’t really determine if one had more cleaner than the other. BUT, the Publix version almost looked soapy when I mopped. There were little soap bubbles covering the entire floor where I had mopped. I did not see that happen with the Swiffer.

Notice my picture below that the Swiffer is on the left and the Publix is the cloth on the right. While I did the same amount of  floor at what I feel was at the same pressure, the Swiffer definitely “collected” more dirt in the cloth. It’s a visible difference.

I had a friend do a visual look for me to see if she saw any major difference and she said she felt the left side of the floor (Swiffer side) looked better and not as dull.

The price difference is about $1.13, but you can get them for about the same price with a sale/coupon combo if you are patient! So, I am declaring the Swiffer the winner as I felt like it was more effective at cleaning.

So have you tried them? Did you have a preference?
